About

Deus City is an Alternate Reality Game created by Fundi Technologies as part of Adam Brackin's doctoral thesis at the University of Texas at Dallas. The game was launched in August of 2006. Fundi Technologies has given permission for this wiki to use their intellectual property as an out-of-game resource for players.

The story revolves around the future dystopian city of Deus City. Using a faction and point-based system, players attempt to influence the present and future.

The Story, Abbreviated - (Edit)

Adam Brackin, a PhD candidate at UT-Dallas, was working on his dissertation with a team of six other students involving firing a laser into space to communicate with the future. After a successful lunar test in October, the team gears up for the experiment on November 11th.

On November 11th, the team successfully contacts the future...but instead of only reaching two weeks into the future, they reach President Fujimoto of Deus City, thirty years in the future. He describes a utopic world where information is free, and life is beautiful.

At this point, mysterious investors purchase the project and the seven team members go their separate ways. While Adam Brackin goes on a mystical trek across the United States, Foo is busily trying to hack the feed and access information from the future. Players are encouraged to register as "Temporal Agents". Phil was working for Defense-Corp, the company that purchased the project, and Adam was captured by the company.

Foo staged a takeover of Defense-Corp in late December, wresting control of the interface from a mysterious group. In the commotion, Phil and Adam escaped the complex. With control of the link to the future, Foo launched The Deus City Interface to allow players to communicate with people in the future city of Deus City. Players were divided into the White District and Grey District and given the opportunity to interact with agents of the future.

One of those future agents, Chris Brown, turned out to be the future version of Chris Brown at Fundi Technologies, the programmer who set up the Deus City Interface. Frustrated with Foo's leadership, he attempted to send a message to have Alex Wright Sr killed by agents from our time but failed--Alex Wright Sr still died, however, and Alex blamed Adam for the death.

In the future, there are numerous ongoing plots including a serial killer called the "God Killer", a faction known as the Guardians that work under the auspices of the Holy Faith United Church, and an ex-member of the Corporate Eighters resistance movement called "Pie in the Sky". There is also talk about some calamity in the year 2042 causing communication with the future to cease in 2012.

In the present time, the Committee of the Sedulous Amalgamation is revealed to be the organization charged with protecting the fragments of Nostradamus' prophecies. Players from all factions are desperately seeking fragments of the folios, which detail present and future events surrounding Deus City.
